NCCU 10th among HBCUs

U.S.News & World Report also ranked schools with the best undergraduate education among historically black colleges and universities. The colleges were compared only with one another for these rankings, using a special peer survey among only HBCUs.

In order to be on this rankings list, a school must be currently designated by the Department of Education as an HBCU, a status created as part of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

In total, there were 80 black colleges and universities eligible to be ranked.

N.C. Central University placed 10th overall among HBCUs. Leading the top 10 were No. 1 Spelman, followed by Howard, Morehouse, Fisk, Xavier (La.), Hampton, Tuskegee, Claflin, Dillard and NCCU, respectively.

"While I'm pleased to see NCCU is ranked among the top tier of HBCUs, our goal is to be among the top universities in the Southeast," said NCCU Chancellor Charlie Nelms on Wednesday.
